Flat top trailer hire questions
Booking, pickup, towing and what's included. If your question isn't here, call or text 0426 281 785.
Is a flat top the same as a flatbed trailer?
Yes. Flat top, flatbed and flat deck all describe an open, flat trailer deck. Mine has 300 mm drop sides and a mesh headboard, which keep loads in place without getting in the way of a forklift.
How do I book?
Through Local Trailer Hire. Pick your dates, pay, and you're booked. It's set up for Instant Book, so you don't have to wait for me to approve it.
Why Local Trailer Hire and not directly?
They handle the payment, bond, damage cover and rental contract, which protects both of us. It also keeps the calendar up to date.
How much is it?
$108 a day for 1 to 3 days, $90 a day for 4 to 6 days and $78 a day for a week or longer. That includes GST, the Local Trailer Hire fees and NRMA roadside assistance.
What about bond and damage?
Local Trailer Hire handles both. You choose your Trailer Shield cover level at checkout, which limits what you're liable for. The full terms are in the rental contract you see when you book.
Where do I pick it up?
Leighton Place, Hornsby NSW 2077. I send the exact address through Local Trailer Hire after you book.
What are the pickup and return times?
Monday to Friday 6–8 am and 4–8 pm, and 6 am to 8 pm on weekends. Additional pickup times are available on request. Call or text 0426 281 785.
Will you show me how it works?
Yes. I'll go through hitching up, the plug, the brake controller and the ramps, and check it's sitting right on your car.
Does my car need a brake controller?
No. There's an Elecbrakes EB2 on the trailer. You need a 7-pin flat socket and a towbar rated for the loaded weight.
What can my car tow?
Your car and towbar need to be rated for 1030 kg plus your load, up to 3500 kg fully loaded. The towing page has a quick check.
Can I tow it on P plates?
On green Ps, yes, if your car is rated for it. Red P drivers can't, because NSW limits them to trailers that weigh 250 kg or less empty. Learners can't tow in NSW.
How much can it carry?
2470 kg. Anything you drive up the ramps needs to be under 2000 kg.
Are straps included?
Bring your own rated ratchet straps or chains for your load. Ask when you book if you're not sure what you need.
What if the trailer has a problem on the road?
NRMA roadside assistance is included, Australia-wide, for anything that goes wrong with the trailer during your hire.
Is there a hitch lock?
Yes, a Saracen hitch lock lives in the toolbox and can stay on while you tow. Please use it whenever the trailer is parked.
Does it have a break-away system?
Yes. An ARK break-away unit puts the brakes on if the trailer ever comes off the tow ball.
